For Angela

1200......That's how many photos I took while I was away. Most of them aren't that great. Just a reminder of my travels. I am in the process of unloading them onto flickr. You can look at them here, if your got a couple of hours!

It is a bit scary getting back to real life. 166 emails & 25 phone messages to sort through (and I have not even been to work yet)

I have come to realise that home is pretty important....more particular the people around me. I was quite homesick towards the end of my trip.

I managed to pack a fair bit into my 18 days. There were some highlights though.

Catching up with Meg (and Amelia) in Bangkok.

She brought along her beautiful Babbette blanket that she has been making for Jules!

It is inspiring stuff.....well done.

The place I'd like to go back to...

Luang Prabang.

It was tranquil, calm, clean, friendly.

Below is a photo I took of a young monk adjusting his robes while collecting alms of rice in the early morning.

This photo was taken near the local market just our of the main part of town.

More Bangkok....Thanks Meg

This Internet thing is everywhere....but better if you have your own laptop with you. As I don't it takes a little longer to find a computer that was made in the 21st century that has a USB port.

Well an update. Meg & Amelia took me back to China Town for some serious shopping. they took me to tourist free zones....loved it. Especially because they were both able to do the talking for me!

I bought some beautiful linen from this shop. The guy was great - he gave me little swatches of all the colours to take home. I will post his shop details later.
Next it was off to the secret fabric shop at the back of a shop. You would NEVER find this if you didn't know it was there.
It was dusty, with cobweb 100's of years old hanging from the ceiling. But soooo much fabric. Liberty, made in Japan stuff....amazing.

Then it was time for a bit of serenity........
We went to Jim Thompson House. The place was beautiful. It couldn't have been any different to the bustle of China Town.

As Meg was leaving to go back home Angela arrived! We went and had a few drinks then went out to
Suan Lum Night Bazaar. Weird and wonderful things there.
Fancy a fish spa??? Freaky!
It was soon time to go of to Lao - Luang Prabang....but not before spotting some Broccoli Chips at the airport. Who thought they would be a good idea?

Bangkok....full on!

I arrived in Bangkok this morning. Weather wasn't too bad. Managed to navigate my way to the airport shuttle bus - then a tuk tuk to my hotel. Amazing room with a balcony looking out onto the city. I then started wondering around.
Basically I got completely lost. Every time I asked someone where I was I got a different answer....like way off! So I just walked around some part of China Town. I eventually found a guy who spoke English & knew where he was! And eventually found my way back to the hotel.

I stood and watched these guys cooking dumpling type creations - yum and only 40Bh.

That pink bike on the end looks like one Barbie would use.
One of the shops I found sold cake decorations & cooking supplies
At some point in my walkabout I stumbled down a small lane....
It was HABBY HEAVEN

The photos can't possibly give you the real picture. It was hot(ish), smelly, crammed with boys (very camp ones) and girls. It was just full on.
I did get a few bits. But Meg is going to show me tomorrow how the hell I got there! Love to here your Bangkok secrets.

My next project???

Miriam from my crochet class showed us this great rug. I love the colours and the design.
I also love this little pic!
The both came from this mag!

I am definitely not one to write a lot on my blog. Don't panic...not going to start now! However I am about to go to South East Asia on Monday and I wanted to let you know that I will be travelling. I hope to post while away - but you never know what will happen with Internet availability.
Anyway here is my trip in a few sentences...
Pop to Bangkok for a quick shop with Meg,
Then off to Luang Prabang.
Next stop Angkor Wat, then off to visit my new niece in Cambodia.
To top it all off - at bit of shopping in Hong Kong on the way home!
See you when I get back -
