Beginners Crochet Classes

Have you seen some of Pips lovely granny squares? Would you like to know how? I am starting another round of beginners crochet classes....

Crochet 1 - The Basics
Monday 7pm - 9pm (4th, 11th & 18th May)
In this class you will learn the basic crochet stitches: chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, and treble stitch. You will also learn how to hold the needle correctly and Australia/UK and USA terminology. From these stitches you can make a variety of things - scarves, cushion covers, and blankets to name a few. After learning the basics stitches, students will decide on a project to complete and take home

Renovated Blog

The other day while blogging I came across a question. How do you get 3 columns on your blog? Well Curly Pops came to the rescue. Since then I followed her direction to here and did it myself! Very proud of myself.

Rain?

Yesterday it took me nearly 1 hour in traffic to get from Flemington to Carlton. These journeys help remind me to ride my bike more.
While in traffic the sky looked great - especially if your hoping for rain....like most of Melbourne is. Alas - only a few showers!

Thought I'd share it with you

Mesh Stitch

Multiple of 2 sts plus 1.
Start with an odd number of ch, plus 3 extra.
Foundation row: 1 tr into 6th ch from hook, * 1 ch, miss 1 ch, 1tr into next ch, rep from * to end, turn
Row 1: 4 ch (counts as first tr and 1 ch), miss (1 tr and 1 ch) at end of previous row, 1 tr into next tr, *1ch, miss 1 ch, 1 tr into next tr, rep from * to end, working tr at end of last rep into 3rd of 4ch at beg of previous row, turn.
This row forms pattern.

red lentil soup

Over Easter I enjoyed......

Lisa’s Spicy Lentil Soup

125g butter
2 medium onions
2 gloves garlic
1 tbs garam masala
2 teaspoons turmeric
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 cups dried red lentils (best if you soak them for a bit first)
2 x 415 ml cans tomato puree
2.5 lts vegie stock (10 cups) (use boiling water & add when hot)
1/3 cup fresh coriander

heat butter, cook onion, garlic & spices stirring for 3min. Add lentils stir for another 2min. Stir in puree & vegie stock. Bring to boil, simmer uncovered for about 30 min or until lentils are soft. Stir in coriander before serving. You can add some natural yogurt when serving. If looking for a heartier meal add sweet potato or/and mushrooms during the cooking.

I have only recently discoverd that the USA crochet stiches are not the same as what I learnt. So here is the solution - a conversion table!
I sat on the floor of Boarders today and looked at every crochet book they had. This one I decided was the most comprehensive.
